Sam Hankins

​

Sam Hankins Jr., is a well-known American trumpeter who was raised in a musical household in Oklahoma City, OK. He developed his talent and aspirations with the support of his father Sam Hankins, Sr, who was the lead singer of a musical group, Sam Hankins and the Ho-Dads.

​

Sam Hankins, Jr. has shared the stage with many legendary artists, including Al
Jarreau, Clark Terry, The O’Jays, The Temptations, The Dells, The Impressions, Aretha Franklin
and the Glenn Miller Big Band.

​

As a prolific composer, Sam Hankins, Jr. has composed over 150 pieces. The work has served as the foundation for his solo recording career, which began with the release of his debut full-length album Dream Catcher (July 2011) and followed by the release of Nothing Between Us (May 2012). These albums are compilations of his body of work that span every musical genre, from smooth jazz and dance to techno.

 

He released his third CD, Joyous Celebration, a Christmas CD in collaboration with
David McLorren ( November 2015) and Do That Thang (March 2016). All 4 CD’s have received lots of radio play in the US & around the world and have won over 25 independent music awards. Sam Hankin’s Jr. can now add the Long Beach Jazz Festival to that list of honors.
